Once a haijin, now I walk with a smiling face. No great loss.

i was lying on the beanbag this evening, inadvisedly listening to darnielle and watching the portrait that antoinette did in watercolours of my dad, as it swam on the wall, wondering if it heralded another migraine or if i was just having a flashback, and i realized that i hadn't posted a poem here in ever so long, and i thought i might post something about how when i'm in extreme physical pain my eyes have a tendency to leak, but that's about the only time these days, and then i realized i didn't have the words anymore.

they must have fallen down the back of the couch i don't have.

if i did have the words, perhaps i'd write of the spider outside my door which has weaved a beautiful three-dimensional web which looks like the death star; or the big dead lizard i found the other morning, killed by the lawnmower man, which i thought was still alive, heart beating a last tattoo, until the fat maggot poked out of the ribcage; or perhaps i'd write of the electrocuted fruitbat high up in the powerlines which birthed an electrocuted fruitbatbaby onto the street gutter last week. all in three lines each.

but i guess i won't be doing that anymore.

every solution has a pricetag. be careful what you wish for. you may get it.

normal service will probably not be resumed. have a nice life anyway. after all, why waste it?

Dust in his wake
Caught in the streetlight:
wild hair, shambling off into
night, leaving behind
the cult cinema hoarding,
and his own cult dreams.

It Is Also The Soldier
They also have Soldiers in places
there is no freedom of religion.

They also have Soldiers in places
there is no freedom of the press.

They also have Soldiers in places
there is no freedom of speech.

They also have Soldiers in places
there is no freedom of protest.

They also have Soldiers in places
there are no fair trials.

They also have Soldiers in places
there is no right to vote.

It is also the Soldier who salutes the flag,
Who serves beneath the flag,
And whose coffin is draped by the flag,
Who makes these things true.

like something from legends
moonbright smiling down through clouds
and the dirt-clean air
cushioning this rain, gentle on my face
the night falling away before my feet.

i can only share the words.

The Lyger
lyger, lyger, learning light
through the lorrests of the fright
what an awful handsome tea

Ask me how I am
I'll tell you that I'm fine
and I'll mean it, too.
The screaming is so far away—
the drugs work, baby. The drugs work.
And not a thing is missing
from my life
from my world
the holes have all closed over
in my eyes
in my world
since Naught became a Something
to hold onto in the night.
There's nothing really missing
all is quiet, peaceful, still.
There's nothing really missing
